The Story Behind Samantha Jane Online

So I thought I would delve in a little more about myself and the reason behind wanting to create this website. I have always been creative from a really early age and all I ever wanted to do was to make things – whether that be from toilet rolls, bits of magazines, washing up liquid bottles or random bits of fabric – you name it anything I could find I would make it into something.

I never really knew what I wanted to do growing up but I knew that I wanted to do something creative. I did my A-levels in Fine Art and Graphic Design and after that I never went to University, I could never really nail down exactly what I wanted to do – although I knew it had to be something creative. I worked in retail for years for many large retailers, from fashion, footwear, homeware and interior design. One summer I took myself off to Paris to au pair for my friends family where I taught the children english. I suppose that was my ‘Eat Pray Love’ sort of moment of finding myself so to speak.

When returning I took myself back to college, I studied dress making of an evening then went back full-time to study Buying, Merchandising and Styling for a year. After finishing the course I got an internship for a fashion online company within their Marketing department, I was lucky enough a full-time job came up for an e-commerce Merchandiser and after time then led to Senior E-commerce Merchandiser. After a few years I then decided to leave as I always wanted to be more involved in the buying side of things, so I went on to work for a large retail company as a Buying Assistant then on to Junior Buyer which is what I do now. It’s a great job that I really enjoy and has a lot of creative input.

Fantastic Crafty FoxIn 2016 I started up my side business called Fantastic Crafty Fox selling handmade bags and accessories. I was missing some creativity in my life and wanted to get back on my sewing machine. I had a successful year with it, taking part in craft fairs and selling online for Etsy. I met so many talented artists in this time whose work inspired me and gave me courage to keep creating. The creative community is so lovely, I encourage anyone to get involved.

Myself and my lovely other half rented a flat at this time and as time went on we knew it would come to a point where we wanted to buy our own home. So, last year we decided to take the plunge and move back in with our parents as there was no way we could do this while renting. As tough as this has been we are finally seeing light at the end of our tunnel and will be looking to buy in the next coming months – all being well. This is the reason I had to put a pause button on Fantastic Crafty Fox, as sad as I was I knew I could always go back as it was just my side hobby – but one I loved and cared a lot about.

So, this is where it leads to me deciding to create this website. I wanted to create a space where I can still be creative but offer up a lot more and inspire and encourage people like others have done to me. So why not do this under Fantastic Crafty Fox some may question? Well, I feel I am somewhere else with my craft right now and I wanted to re-launch and create more of an open space with a new and different approach. It was a tough decision to make but I feel where I am in my life and what I want to offer, this was the right thing to do. Plus, I am always drumming up lots of ideas (my Pinterest ideas secret board is jam-packed ha!) and I know when we have our own home and get my craft space back I can start to make again.

“Never give up on a dream just because of the time it will take to accomplish it. Time will pass anyway”

So this is me, this is my website and the reason behind creating this space. I am very passionate about people doing more of what they love, to live their passions in the ways that they want to. To not doubt themselves and really make a go of it no matter how big or small it may be, as you will never know unless you try. I want to offer up advice here as well as ideas, but more so I want to create a platform to introduce fellow creatives that inspire me as I feel it is important to support each other and our dreams.
