The Magical Art of not giving a F**k
Back in January I decided to make a resolution to read more. I feel Like I make this one every year and never really stick to it, however I promised myself this year would be different and now we are in April I have 5 books finished and ticked off my forever growing amazon wish list. Not a bad attempt so far if I do say so myself. So I decided to use my blog space to share the books I have been reading. (Another incentive to keep me reading)
Back in January I was preparing for a work trip to Hong Kong, with a 12 hour flight in front of my what better time to start than there. I had seen everywhere so many pictures of Sarah Knight’s books – the ‘Anti-Guru’ as some may call her. In my words though – an absolute genius! As I was killing some time in the airport I saw her first book ‘The Magical Art of Not Giving a F**k’ in the book shop and thought I’d give it a go. This book is a brilliant, honest and funny read. The book is all about getting rid of things that annoy you (f**ks you don’t want to give) to then leave behind all things that make you happy or bring you joy. All of this stems down to how you spend your time, money and energy, making sure you use it in the ways that YOU want to do, and stop waisting it on the things you don’t. The more I read this book the more I felt it resinate with me and I didn’t really realise how much I needed it, as I myself find I say yes to a lot of things that in honesty – I do not give a F**k about.
To keep yourself happy you need to focus on the things you want and shape how you want it to be, and this book is definitely one to get you thinking different about things. I know it has done for me and I can honestly say I am living my life with ‘fewer fucks’. Because we do need to, too many are handed out (fucks that is) and we need to not waist our energy so much and start putting that energy to more use. Obviously Knight is being clear in the book on how best to approach her method (aka not being an utter asshole) But so many of us like myself worry what others think and we need to try to focus on what we want – regardless of others opinions.
After I finished this book I then bought Knight’s follow up books to this ‘You Do You’ and ‘Get your Sh*t together’ I have already finished You Do You and am now in the middle of Get Your Shit Together. Will be sure to share my thoughts on these with you lot soon!
